Video Response on AIDS

The Stories of AIDS in Africa, is this women Stephanie Nolen talking about her experiences with AIDS in Africa. She has wrote down 28 good experiencs from AIDS and wants the world to read them. They are insperational. The first story she talks about is about these two kids, who are orphaned due to AIDS. These kids have no help, but still stay in school. They try their hardest and are not giving up. The second story is about this man and his wife, the wife gets raped, and they both contract AIDS. He stands up and says he has AIDS and is considered a hero, well says his students. The third story is about a researcher who is not giving up, he is steadily looking for a vaccine to the epidimic AIDS.She went on to answer questions about the book.
Jaboya, Women are sleeping with their fishermen to get Jaboya. That is all i got from that. I could not understand what she was saying. Since they are having sexual reletionships with the fishermen, so AIDS is a big risk. Jaboya, it means having sexual reletionships for fish.
Deadly Catch, in Kenya are surprised of how many people are in the final stages of AIDS and how many people come in with it. Some of the native kids, do not have parents because they died of AIDS. In Kenya, Jaboya is also big. The reason why some of the women do this is because they can't afford to eat, so they have sex for fish.

Why do you think the effects of AIDS are so massive different in Africa than they are in the US?
In the US, we have slowly overcome AIDS, we accept it into our comunity now. In Africa, people can not even tell someone without being outcasted. So i believe it is very different because it's almost like we are in different times. Some of the places don't have teachers and such.

What was your knowledge about AIDS in Africa before watching these videos?
I pretty much knew that the kids were orphans because of AIDS. However I did not expect for the weathy people and the educated people to be the main AIDS victims in Africa, well not main victims, but they lost alot of educated people. They don't have that many teachers over their now, the student teacher ratio is like 250:1, which is outragious.

What role do you think culture plays in the effect AIDS has had on the African population?
I think it plays a critical role, because once again I have to say they are losing alot of people. Some of them are well educated, and are just dying from AIDS. Then there are the people who have no education and die because they have no job, or no prevention awarness.

What solutions to these problems do you think are out there?
I think their are alot of small solutions to help Africa out for the time being. We could all donate and try to find a cure for HIV/AIDS. Another way is to help out, just be there, teach them how to be aware of the dangers of AIDS. If more people are open to it over there, maybe they will try to help and stand up for their own people.

3 videos and my intereptations

What is a summary? A summary is a brief exlplination of a source. So perhaps I like my source and could use it, but by shorting it, and putting it in my words. I would be stateting the main points in the source, but not the whole thing, it has to be smaller. In some weird way, I just did a summary of the summary video. This video was the best, it was the best thought up, and the drawings were amazing.

How to select the right number of key words? First let me answer what is a key word? It is a something that relates it to an article, you use key words in Google all the time. The key word goes through a database and will bring back an article about it. It is best to use 2-4 key words when looking for articles. This video was also weird, it had a message saying 42 every few seconds..... What was up with the chicken analogy, it did not make sence, but thanks for trying.

Why are citations important? It gives the person who you took that idea credit for having thought of it. If I cite something it makes me look more reliable and trust worthy. I'm sorry but that video, was weird. It was talking about a man with no pants in front of children..... WEIRD

Silly Americans

I think America treated AIDS like it was the end of the world. We did not know what it was. The USA blamed gays, drug users and even small kids who had to use needles. Uganda and Thailand handled it alot better, they treated it like it was cureable. They helped decrease the chances of people getting it, which helped out alot. Uganda and Thailand actually disscused it with their locals, while America was stuck in a fear zone, where the politicians were afraid to talk about it. America took the back seat, and just watched it unfold is how i see it. We did not even tell the people to use protection, once we did know what it was.

HIV/AIDS

What I know about HIV and AIDs, I know that it is a virus that started with the chimps first. I know that at first we did not know what it was. It's apart of everyones world because its a sexually transmitted disease. It can also be spead through needles, or just blood contact. So everyone is worried, and now we promote safe sex, and try to be more safer.

"By all means marry; if you get a good wife, you'll be happy. If you get a bad one, you'll become a philosopher. " -- Socrates

So we are talking about marriage. I read up on an article, http://www2.hu-berlin.de/sexology/ATLAS_EN/html/history_of_marriage_in_western.html , and here is what I think about it.

In Ancient Israel the wives are considerded property for the most part and they mostly married for procreation. I believe in procreation, the reason I believe in this is because we need to pass our genes on to be sucessful. However I would not want to have kids without someone I love. In Israel, love was not escential.

In Medieval Europe the wives had a little more power, but not to much. Christianity made it so that divorce was punishable by death. Since christianity came around, marriage was more popular It was frowned apon if you were not a virgin who was not married. Love was not to popular here either. The wedding ring idea, came from Medieval Europe, it is actually a down payment for a brides sale. There were laws to prohibite marring in the family to closely. I think that the laws were reasonable. I do not like arranged marriages, they creep me out, marring somebody you might not know.

In modern times wives had once more a little more power, but not equal to the mans. Divorce was permitted on special circumstances, it took years for it to be legalized. Polygamy was looked down apon. America has followed some of the catholic rituals, by having a priest (justice of the peace) and two witnesses.

So after reading all of that, I know where some of the traditions came from. It does not change the way I feel about marriage. I think if you love someone, and want to move on to the next step, thats marriage. I don't believe in marring for money, unless you actually love him/her. The reason I want to get married is because I want to create a family, with the people I love and adore. The things I think is a must in most relationships is; love, friendship, communication, trust and loyalty. Without those things, it is pretty much doomed. I understand divorce, if you fall in love with someone, then a year later he is totally different and you do not like it, divorce is an easy way out.

College Life

Hi there i'm Dylan Coates. I have already had this blog for another class, and rather delete precious memories, I would like to share them with you. I like general topics and debates, even though I am an accounting major. I like people who are very opinionated, i'm always up for something new, or a new concept. If you like this post, or some of my older, more unexperienced posts, then you should follow.

outrageiously dumb

I think that should not be passed. It is not right. We have the ability to take 36 classes, so we should at least meet the minimum of 24. It would not be right just to pass it, because we had to take more. Although it would keep the ones who want to go to college and the other kids seperated.
